Connections
Connecting Art to the students' lives and other school subjects
Meta Interpretation
High School Level Students
Skills developed: Design language writing, art critiquing, and knowledge of art techniques and materials
Supplies: notebook, pencil, and other supplies depending on students' own visions!
1. Field trip to a local art gallery or art show
2. Students will choose a piece to write about. This is a good lesson for students to practice their design language. They will discuss:
a) Subject matter -What the piece looks like (the elements and principles shown in the piece)
b) Form - How the piece was made (oil paint, clay, digital art, etc)
c) Content - What the art means (how does it make them feel, think about, what does the artist want to say?)
3. Later students will create an interpretation of the piece they chose based only on their own words and their memory!
